montip is a tipping marketplace for open source software. Below is everything you need to know to use it confidently.
Common questions
Q.What is montip?↓
montip is a way to thank the people who build the open source tools you use every day. You pick a project, send a small tip, and the people who wrote the code can claim their share of the tips.
Q.What's MON?↓
MON is the digital currency we tip in. It works like dollars but lives on the Monad blockchain - a public, internet-native ledger. You can buy MON on most major crypto exchanges.
Q.Do I need to know anything about crypto?↓
No. When you sign in with Google we create a wallet for you automatically. You add MON to it once, then tip projects with one click - same as adding things to a shopping cart.
Q.Where does my tip go?↓
Every tip goes into a pool for that specific project. People who have written code for that project (verified through GitHub) can claim their share of the pool. The split is based on how many commits each person has made.
Q.Can I get my tip back?↓
Once a tip lands on the Monad network it's permanent - like dropping coins into a busker's hat. You do get a one-second cancel window after tapping Tip on a project, so you can back out if you misclicked.
Q.Why pay 1 MON per project? Why not more or less?↓
You choose. The default is 1 MON per project but you can change the tip size to 10, 100, or 1000 MON in the catalog. Whatever you pick is what gets sent each time you tap Tip.
Q.I wrote code for one of these projects - how do I claim?↓
Sign in, then go to the Creator page and link your GitHub account. We'll match your GitHub username against each project's contributor list. If you're a contributor, you'll see your share and can claim it whenever you want.
Q.Is this safe?↓
Your wallet is self-custodial - only you can spend the MON in it. We never see your password or your private key. The tips themselves go to a wallet we operate so we can pay out claims; we plan to move that to a smart contract before this leaves beta.
